Our Senior Designer, Eva, Renovated Her Kitchen with FORM

One of our senior designers, Eva Littlefield, designed her own kitchen with FORM and has graciously invited us to virtually tour her kitchen and learn more about FORM’s cabinetry and design process. Eva has been an interior designer for 17 years, working across boutique hospitality, large commercial builds, and residential, but found that her true passion lies within the kitchen – it’s truly the heart of the home.

Tell us about your personal project

At a very high level, I love to cook and entertain, and that was a big part of this kitchen renovation. I wanted to create a space that could store all of my kitchen tools and appliances and also have plenty of room for people to hang or pitch in with cooking.

I love European-style cabinetry because everything is so purposeful, and it’s about everything having its place. The European approach isn’t just about sleek, modern aesthetics, it’s also about functionality and maximizing storage. European kitchens tend to be a lot smaller than American kitchens, so they really think through the purpose of each cabinet and make sure there’s no wasted space. And that’s why I love FORM’s style. It’s a Zen-like feeling to know that everything has its place in my kitchen and I’m making the most of every square inch.

What are some of your favorite features in your new space?

I love my paneled refrigerator. It helps keep a clean seamless look. I also love my appliance garage for similar reasons. I love things being tucked away, so the kitchen feels clean and serene at all times.

I cook a lot and host a lot, so on either side of my cook range, I have my dedicated cookie-sheet cabinet and I have my neatly organized spice racks. It keeps what I need close to where I am cooking and it helps keep everything nice and tidy.

Another big win for me is the integrated trash storage. I can just put my foot under the sensor and the trash unit will pop out, and I don’t have to use my dirty hands to open up the trash. It makes cleanup from cooking so easy. I also love that there’s a metal lip over the trash units, which really helps contain the odor.

What did you learn about your own design process in doing your own kitchen?

Really take the time in the beginning of the project to think through everything that’s important to you – where do you want your pans, how do you want to live, what do you want to do in the space – all those things. We all have deadlines we want to hit, but it is so worth taking that extra time to think through everything at the start, so that you really design a space that will serve you for many more years to come. That extra time is worth the wait.
